ENTAV by IFV & INRAE was founded by the IFV (French Institute of Vine and Wine) and INRAE (National Institute for Agricultural, Food and Environmental Research). Co-Managing Director of ENTAV International

ENTAV by IFV & INRAE embodies a commitment to reinforcing the market leadership of French-sourced vine planting stock. By broadening its services, especially in diversity, ENTAV by IFV & INRAE helps nurseries and the wine-growing sector address key industry challenges: agroecology, climate change and new wine styles. With 60 years of expertise, ENTAV by IFV & INRAE continues to drive the sector forward through constant innovation.

  • Vincent Beguier

    Co-Managing Director of ENTAV International

The development of innovative grape varieties - the result of four decades of research by INRAE in close collaboration with IFV - together with the need to preserve the rich diversity of our grape varieties and respond to the new challenges facing wine production (climate change, pest pressure, societal expectations and new production methods) has led us to rethink our brand in support of French wine production. Rooted in expertise and innovation, this brand evolution ensures that we continue to support your work with wine-growing clients.

  • Laurent Audeguin

Director of Development at ENTAV International

Supporting the brand’s development, first internationally in the early 2000s, then in France, has shown just how strong the interest in French collections has always been. In countries fond of diminutives, such as the US, they are commonly referred to as ‘ENTAV clones’. For winegrowers, this is a sure indicator of quality. As a result, the collections launched in the early 1970s continue to enjoy lasting success. The new range will build on that success by broadening the diversity of its portfolio. Its sole aim is to meet the wine-growing industry’s needs with high-performance plant material.

  • David Amblevert

    Former President of the FFPV

Vine nursery growers are always keen to keep up with the latest innovations. Today, demand is becoming more diverse as we respond to the many challenges we face. In this context, plant material is a key factor. Moreover, the new ‘ENTAV by IFV & INRAE’ initiative, which gives greater prominence to plant collections and the development of new varieties alongside traditional breeding, sends a strong signal. This approach will help us meet the needs of the wine-growing industry.

FAQ

View our FAQ

What is a clone?

This refers to vegetative propagules that are true to a stock selected for its identity, phenotypic characteristics and health status (OIV definition). In short, it is a form of asexual reproduction. In other words, clonal selection harnesses the natural diversity within a variety.

How can you identify a plant bearing the ENTAV by IFV & INRAE label?

Certification is shown by an official blue-and-white label issued by FranceAgriMer and affixed to the plants. The ENTAV by IFV & INRAE logo on commercial documents confirms that the nursery operator holds an IFV licence and is authorised to market this material.

Why are clones protected by a trademark?

Selecting a clone takes 15 to 20 years of research and health testing. To support this ongoing R&D, the IFV and INRAE receive royalties on every plant sold under the brand, in France and internationally.
